The Sicarii, the “dagger-bearers”, were a feared sect of zealots known for targeted assassinations in the decades prior to and during the First Jewish Revolt. Carrying curved daggers or “Sica” they were feared by Romans and collaborators alike. Ultimately, they were besieged at the mountaintop fortress of Masada, committing suicide rather than surrendering.
