Heat, Renovations, Exams & Work: July Update

It has been a couple of weeks since I last posted on here, and I wanted to update you all on what has been happening with Northwing Miniatures.
Our latest release, the Rat-Kin Reavers, have proved to be very popular, which is exciting and gratifying at the same time. A huge thank you to everyone who has already purchased a set! I have even had the pleasure of playing a couple of games of Mordheim down at my local club versus some of them which were purchased by one of my fellow club mates. I have also been playing some games of the Doomed with them which has been very exciting!

The theme of June and July has been heat, work, renovations and essays, all of which have conspired to keep me from doing as much hobby and work on Northwing Miniatures as I would like.
First, you may have noticed it has been hot. Very hot. The past couple of weeks the heat in my office room has been quite demotivating, so I invested in a neck fan in the hope that this will keep me cool enough that I fancy getting on with some hobby. Before this could arrive however, we have begun a major home renovation project, which has involved taking out one of the walls of my office (temporarily) and turning my office into a building site whilst we re-do our bathroom. It turns out the floor is rotten due to shoddy workmanship by the previous owner which has turned this into a bigger job than expected. Consequently, I have completely lost my painting desk for the next couple of weeks, and access to most of my tools and supplies. I have rescued a few paints for a small project I have underway, but that’s all I will be able to work on this month. However, once the work is done the bathroom will look significantly better, and we won’t be at risk of falling through the floor, so thatI have also been neck-deep working on some assignments for the diploma I am studying for through work. Whilst I love writing about all things wargaming (and history), the diploma topic is….less exciting, but unfortunately useful from a career perspective. It has also taken up a lot of my spare time. However, the current module is now nearly done, so I hoping to have a couple of weeks off over August. My real job is also proving to be very busy and more stressful than usual due to various things, so that been sapping some of my mental energy too. Nothing too much to complain about, but it just another thing to add to the list of things that have been keeping me from doing much with Northwing. So I really appreciate all the positive comments and feedback I have received, it keeps me motivated and enthused, so thank you!
I have been taking a little time for myself, going down to the club every fortnight or so where we have been playing some fantastic games. I have some ideas about converting some of the Rat-Kin for The Doomed, the setting of which is basically a mashup of apocalyptic fantasy and sci fi themes, which has given me some fun kitbashing ideas. Watch this space... Talking of kitbashing, I have also seen someone do some head swaps on my Jewish rebels to turn them into an all-female Mordheim warband which was very interesting. So, what’s next for Northwing? Having released my Rat-Kin, my next goal is to start releasing some scatter terrain and maybe scratch-building some terrain too. Due to everything I have listed above, this will likely be a Q3 activity, but I do have some exciting (I think) ideas in the works…
