The Rat-Kin Reaver Shields: Your Questions Answered

I wanted to do something different with the shields used by the Rat-Kin. A key part of their aesthetic is that they scavenge their equipment, much of it being ragged and rotten. Their shields would be no different, and should look like they have been looted from battlefields and grave sites, being corroded and rotten.

Alan sculpted the original shields (which are rather excellent), which form the basis of the shields I am providing with the Rat-Kin. However, I have taken these and, quite literally, messed them up to give them that damaged look I wanted. Once I was happy with how battered they look I have been casting these in resin. These can be simply glued in place on the models as desired, remembering that all the shields are optional. I provide both large and small versions.

Because of how these have been created and cast, there is a significant amount of variation between each of the shields and what you receive may differ from the website images. I will randomly provide a mixture of different shields (typically 2/3s will be large and 1/3 small). I will always provide a couple of spare shields to give you some variety to give you some choice. For example, if you buy the "Gnawing Tide" bundle deal I will provide you with at least 10 shields (you need 8 at most if you equip everyone with a shield who could hold one). If you just bought RK4, "The Lieutenants" I would provide you with 4 (as you need 2 at most), and if you buy R5 or 6 (axes and spears respectively) I would provide you with 5 (as you need 3 at most). I will usually give these a quick spray in primer. You may notice some very small bubbles inside the resin - this is an artefact of the hand pouring process that I am working on improving, although it does not effect the end product once painted. Finally, because these are cast flat, the backs of the shields have no plank detail (although you could add this back in with a simple paint job if desired).

If you have any questions please let me know.
